We were up near the northern tip of the Long Beach Peninsula when we saw this mama black bear crossing the road with her two cubs. By the time we got a camera out, she had already shooshed them across the road. She, however, was in no great hurry and spent as much time checking us out as we did her. By the time we pulled abreast of her, she was on the side of the road and just stood there while we checked each other out. Gina says bears are my totem animal. Could be...they usually seem pretty calm around me, as I am around them...

Such a photo offers an apt reminder that we share this planet with other creatures! I think the next time I'm in that same area in south county that I'm going to watch my back a little more closely. ;-)
