It appears that an Islamic figure, Al-Khidr, who has correspondences to the Wandering Jew, St. George (Green George), and various other figures in the Abrahamic tradition, and whose name literally means "The Green One", had an influence on Medieval European traditions of the Green Man. The website http://khidr.org/ provides an in-depth treatment of Khidr and materials associated with him. Quite interesting, at least to me. Check it out...
