The Height of Maturity and Personal Responsibility...

A CD has been all the rage as an Xmas gift this year amongst upper-echelon Republicans like Chip Saltsman and Rush Limbaugh (and likely in a lot of lower ones too). It is a "parody" of various presidential candidates. One of the songs is entitled "Barack the Magic Negro". They can say what they will about the nature of this CD, but given that conservative Republican rallies this year sometimes featured hangings of our soon-to-be president, I do not see how anyone can expect this to be taken for anything other than blatant racism. I wonder if sales of white sheets have gone up recently? Sambo dolls? There are just some places we shouldn't be going.

Here's my thing: when you are a public figure, especially one wanting to be elected to office, someone entrusted with a lot of responsiblity, a potential role model for our citizenry, your actions need to be of a fairly high moral standard. Is this? That people look to these men as leaders and authorities in national and world affairs is a sad statement of just how low the standards of many Americans have sunk, and of how prevalent ignorance is in our nation.

I feel the same way about our overpriced, spoiled, often arrogant sports figures. Show us you're worthy of being payed such an exorbitant wage to play a game (now, I know that sports teams are the modern version of tribal warfare, but...). These men need to show us they are worthy of being entrusted with the power they desire. Live up to your responsibilities...then reap the rewards. Be a positive role model. Not a thug.
