We decided to escape today, and drove out to Astoria and the Long Beach Peninsula. We had a wonderful, and oh-so-relaxing time. The weather was perfect. Clear, about 70 degrees, a nice breeze. The area is beautiful. There's the usual PNW mixed woodlands. Then there's saltwater meadows, tidal flats, black water lakes and ponds, long empty stretches of sandy beaches. We

saw raccoons out rummaging around on the tidal flats, white-tailed deer grazing in amongst peoples' houses, and got within about twenty feet of a mama black bear and her two cubs. I had a nice lunch of fish and chips. The towns around there are full of interesting shops, including a whole slew of bookstores(!). We walked around for a little while on a sandy beach that we were sharing with perhaps a dozen other people. And the area is relatively affordable! We love the place, and can't wait to go back. If it weren't for the weekend seminar I'm attending in Seattle tomorrow, we would have grabbed a motel room and spent the night there. I'm the best kind of tired tonight...

it was truly one of those perfect days, eh Love?
I dig the ocean too! That's why I live close to it. The Long Beach Peninsula is a great place most of the year -- except in the middle of summer when they are too many damn people! :)
(I forgot to add the Word "Beach" to Long.)
